The Great British Bake-Off comes to our screens once again this year with the first episode on Channel 4 at 22nd September at 8pm. Creating something equally delicious but decidedly healthier is Nutritionist, author and founder of Bristol-based eatery Sow & Arrow, Pauline Cox MSc BSc. Pauline Cox and her head chef, Denise White will be hosting live cooking demos on the Sow & Arrow Facebook page, offering healthy Keto versions of the GBBO creations each week. Videos will also be available to view on the Sow & Arrow YouTube channel. For bread week viewers can learn how to make grain-free, low-carb, nutritious and delicious Keto bread rolls, for biscuit week we will include a super-healthy, buttery shortbread and show-stoppers will even be topped with natural, sugar-free icing!
Pauline Cox, author of the book “Primal Living in a Modern World” says “with Covid infection rates and obesity rising, being healthy is a top priority right now. Yet, you can have fun baking while creating delicious and nutritious, healthy low-carb versions of the food you love that won’t add on pounds. We will also be celebrating independent British food producers such as Little Pod, producers of exceptional vanilla bean paste and extract, Netherend Butter, organic rich, creamy butter, Motezuma’s, organic, rich, delicious chocolate makers and CocoFina, British, ethical brand of exceptional coconut products. We will be offering ways to give each creation a Christmas twist with ingredients such as gingerbread and pumpkin spices. We can lead you all the way through to a happy, healthy Christmas. Each week we will be giving away great prizes to the best image of our keto-creation.”
The current climate means that more people are choosing to cook at home and “we are noticing a real trend with our customers where eating in is the new eating out. People want to treat themselves with high-quality artisan produce such as British cheeses, fermented products, charcuterie and organic, dark chocolate which provide the experience of fine dining in style at home, yet continuing healthy self-care. Our Great Keto Bake Off can help people try new things at home that they never would have known possible.”
Keto is a low-carb, grain-free, gluten-free lifestyle which is anti-inflammatory and has been shown to help alleviate many chronic health conditions and those related to ageing. Through her online courses and book, Pauline teaches people how to optimise their health and wellbeing through nutrition, lifestyle changes and knowledge.
