Am I depressed… or just knackered!?


Sleep is an essential nutrient for our body. It is a precious time when our body repairs, cleans up cell debris, burns fat and essentially reboots itself. Sleep is a very anti-inflammatory and anti-aging activity!



When we are not sleeping properly, we can begin to experience some symptoms that we wouldn’t always associate with poor sleep. We can become anxious and depressed, we can gain weight around the belly and we can prematurely age!


When we feels continuously tired, it can be very mentally exhausting and can make us feel low, anxious and depressed.


There are multiple reasons for not sleeping properly. Too many stimulants close to bed time can stop us drifting off into a good night sleep. These stimulants include coffee, tea, chocolate and sugar late at night. Eating after 7pm can also have disruptive effects on our peaceful nights sleep.


Improving sleep can have a huge impact on our mental wellbeing.


Ensuring we have enough of natures calming minerals can also help reduce mental tension as well as physical tension….lulling us into a state of peaceful relaxation. These minerals include magnesium, potassium, calcium and B-vitamins. Leafy greens such as kale and spinach are rich in potassium and magnesium. Ultimate Sleep Well Side Dish


Sautéed kale

Steamed broccoli

A ripe avocado

2 tablespoons of nutritional yeast

1 tablespoon of sesame seeds or chia seeds


Sauté the kale for 5-6 minutes in grass-fed butter, ghee or coconut oil. In the meantime add your broccoli to the steamer, steam for 5-6 minutes so that the broccoli still has a bite.

Roughly blend (pulse) the broccoli, avocado, mix in the sautéed kale, sprinkle with Himalayan rock salt, nutritional yeast and sesame or chia.


The minerals in this super-healing dish will help improve sleep, liver function and brain function.
